Why do I like to write?
We are humans. And as human, we have the ability to speak. But what happens when our ability to speak overpower us? Meet - overthinking & anxiety, the result of our inability to control our ability to speak. As the wise ones once said, people listen only so that they could speak. And those who do it, go through something even worse - they go through a never-ending loop of speaking in their head. I realised it when I started meditating 21 days straight. Even I have fallen prey to this never-ending loop of constantly speaking in my head and never actually listening to what I speak within my head. Meditation was a good way to disconnect myself from the speaking self. But it was effective only as long as I meditated. The moment I withdrew myself from meditation, my mind would snap back into being a 8yrs old kid who wouldn’t shut up.
I was never fond of writing as such in general. Writing was always a fun activity for me but never a priority. As I joined NOFILTR, I got introduced to few people who were fond of writing. What started as an activity to feel belonged in the group got stuck with me. Writing thoughts on a piece of paper made me feel liberated. Initially, I used to write campaign ideas and action plans so that I could keep reworking on it in the coming days before presentation. But later, I started jotting down my thoughts and emotions whenever my life and luck went for a roller coaster ride.
Then I got introduced to Jordan Peterson. His words, his way of breaking-down thoughts & his ability to rearrange and present his thoughts influenced me. I was very curious on how he was able to do it. Then I went into a rabbit hole researching about thinkers who changed or influenced the world. After spending a few weeks on reading about many such critical thinkers, I found the most common thing among them all. Apart from going through difficult & life changing moments in their life, they all had one thing in common - their like for writing down their thoughts and revisiting them. I believe the best way to grow mentally and be smarter is to write down your thoughts and revisit them.
